Summer 2025 at Wakehurst – Open Call to Artists

Type: Exhibition Opportunities [View all]
Posted by: Wakehurst RBG Kew
Deadline: Wed, March 13th, 2024

Wakehurst may seem like just a garden in Sussex, but its international reach and global representation are second to none. The world is represented at Wakehurst in many ways – from our phytogeographic planting to our international team of scientists and the Millennium Seed Bank, home to seeds from around the globe.

Building on the success of our previous summer programmes, Summer of Sound (2021), Nourish (2022), Rooted (2023), and Meadowland (2024), our 2025 summer programme will be a three-month programme (July – September) highlighting the impact Wakehurst has around the globe.

Wakehurst is a living laboratory and a site of globally significant plant science, where we research and demonstrate how a biodiverse landscape benefits people and the environment. Pivotal to Wakehurst’s place as a world-class centre for ecology, conservation and seed research is the

Millennium Seed Bank, the world’s largest collection of seeds from wild plant species. Growing from these seeds deepens our knowledge of the ecology of diverse landscapes and unlocks ways to halt plant extinction. The Millennium Seed Bank underpins Wakehurst’s approach to plant conservation – it is a beacon of international expertise and a symbol of hope for the survival of humanity.

We are looking to commission between four and eight installations of different scales with budgets ranging from £5,000 to £30,000.
