Apophatic Art Practice and Research

Contemporary threshold practices in a time of flattening

In an era of algorithmic flattening and datafication, our project asks: How do artists engage with the unsayable, the ineffable, and how can apophatic thought expand and deepen their work? The editorial team invites artists, researchers, educators, and curators to contribute to a curated publication and exhibition examining art through the lens of apophatic studies—approaches that value negation, silence, absence, and what exceeds representation and description.

 

How to Submit

Please send a 500-word paper abstract or project statement to: apophaticart@gmail.com

Include the following in your submission:

• Project title, name, and affiliation (if applicable).

• Relevant media via hyperlinks (Dropbox, Google Drive, or personal sites).

Deadline: April 30, 2026 (extended from original deadline of March 30)
