Gallery Mission:
Gallery Photoland is a non-traditional exhibition space that showcases established photographic artists who represent diverse experiences and world views. The Gallery functions to spark ideas and support connections across the Evergreen community; it is a place for inspiring students about possibilities in fine arts beyond the shores of Eld Inlet.
The Gallery hosts exhibitions aligned with the mission of The Evergreen State College.
Location:
Gallery Photoland, The Evergreen State College, Evans Hall, 1st floor.
2700 Evergreen Parkway NW, Olympia, Washington 98505
Eligibility:
Lens-based artists residing within the United States who have a professional body of work and are mid-career or established in their practice.
Collaborative group shows will be considered and are encouraged.
For this cycle, we are considering work on any topic or theme. We are particularly interested in work that relates in some way to our academic theme for the year “Public Futures.”
Submission Requirements:
Digital submissions should be e-mailed to: carrie.chema@evergreen.edu and contain a zip file that includes:
· Exhibition Application
· 8 - 10 images (jpg format, 72 dpi, 1280pixels on the long side) and/or up to 5 links to video work.
· An identifying list with artist name, artwork title, dimensions, year created, and media
· CV (preferred) or resume
· Artist statement
Note: If there is any use of generative AI in the artwork or any interpretive materials, this should be clearly communicated. The Gallery reserves the right to revoke acceptance if undisclosed use of AI is present within the artwork or accompanying materials.
Details:
Gallery Photoland provides printing for exhibited work at no cost to the artist. The Gallery does not accept original artwork. Typically, scale of printed images cannot exceed 30” x 40” but we will work with artists on a case-by-case basis to work out the details of the show’s production including paper types, color management, and scale of printed works.
Gallery Photoland has monitors (4) and headphones that can be used to display audio/video work.
If selected, Gallery Photoland will work with the artist on curatorial details of the exhibition.
Exhibiting artists are awarded a small honorarium ($250.00) and there are no out of pocket expenses required of artists.
Submission Timeline:
Submit your entry by Wednesday, August 5th, 2026. Invitations to exhibit in Fall 2026 will be sent in early September 2026. Fall exhibition dates will be roughly September 28th - December 18th.
Applications not selected for this cycle will be kept on file for consideration for future shows.
About the Gallery:
Gallery Photoland is a quirky space located in a main thoroughfare of the central building on campus, Evans Hall. It is not an enclosed space so it sees visitors and foot traffic of all users of the building facilities (students, staff, faculty, and the general public). For this reason, some artwork that is highly sensitive may not be accepted.
The gallery consists of:
(3) 20’ walls with slated wood paneling (ceiling hanging mechanisms for display)
(1) 7’ wall with slated wood paneling (ceiling hanging mechanisms for display)
(2) 9’ walls with optional hanging mechanism or direct install to the wall (these are where we typically install monitors for audio/video work)
Track lighting throughout the gallery.
Photos of the space are available on our website. Please visit https://sites.evergreen.edu/photoland/galleries/exhibition-opportunities/
