Deviant: Call for Artworks
Type: Exhibition Opportunities [View all]

Deviant
This group exhibition interrogates "deviance" as a concept, category, label, and worldview. Deviance subverts norms, undermines hegemony, and reimagines traditions. This show celebrates the deviant’s powers of disruption, innovation, authenticity, and individuality at the heart of image making practices in the 21st century. At the same time, Deviant does not shy away from its subject’s various offenses, complicities, and complications. We seek painted and drawn works that address deviance as a subject, theme, or prompt. Artists are invited to submit works on these themes, whether of a personal and private, or structural and institutional nature.
The Hamilton Gallery in Newport, Rhode Island provides a dynamic platform for discourse and art exhibitions. Located on the waterfront campus of Salve Regina University, this 1,000 square foot non-profit public art gallery is a recognized cultural center in New England. Salve Regina University is a private liberal arts university housing vibrant Studio Art and Art History programs accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
Artwork submissions for this exhibition are reviewed by a faculty committee from the Department of Art and Art History at Salve Regina University.
