Curated by Zoë Elena Moldenhauer and James Horner, Avant-garde Right Now! is an online-only exhibition hosted by Amos Eno Gallery on Artsy.net, running from August 10 to September 20, 2026. A digital zine will also be created and given to all artists accepted in the exhibition (printed versions will be available for purchase). This opportunity invites artists to submit works that capture what is avant-garde today.

Artists based anywhere in the U.S. are encouraged to apply to this exhibition through an Open Call.

Exhibition Description

What does it mean to be “avant-garde” today? The term originates from the French military term “advance guard“ meaning to scout terrain and the 19th century French left-wing political reformists known as "vanguard,” a movement of political and social change that challenged society. “Avant-garde” refers to art, literature, or ideas that are experimental, innovative, and pushing the boundaries of what is accepted, often breaking with tradition. 

Amos Eno Gallery is seeking original art that pushes boundaries, explores new themes, and features subject matter that challenge U.S. society today. All forms of media will be considered as long as they have a material form (for example, purely digital media with no physical form, does not meet the Artsy requirement for exhibited works to be for sale). Accepted formats include painting, sculpture, prints, and other physical artworks.
