CAA News Today

Federal agencies and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation are actively dismantling Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. In response, CAA has joined more than 1000 organizations and Tribal Nations in the 106 Strong Coalition to work together to protect cultural heritage. We have signed on to a letter to Congress urging members to vote against the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act, which would erode Section 106 regulations.

For more information, please watch this video, produced by the Society for Architectural Historians, detailing what is at stake.

CAA members are encouraged to get involved in direct action:

  • Contact senators and representatives and ask them to protect Section 106 by voting “No” on the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act. (Find your representatives’ contact information on Congress.gov). The Senate is expected to vote on the bill on November 9. More details can be found here.
  • Prepare a public comment on the revisions. Although not open yet, guidelines can be found here.
  • Join the 106 Strong Coalition and encourage others in your network to do so.
